"Trial" Trail Competition Update

Those in attendance have deemed the KNGHA trial trail competition held on August 4, 2001 a success.  The weather started out rainy and dreary, but this didn't discourage die-hard members from coming out and supporting their association, that is devoted to the mountain horse of Eastern Kentucky.  Two groups tackled the trail, which contained natural obstacles as well as Gertrude-the scarecrow, and other items strategically placed to aid in showing the talents and characteristics the mountain horse naturally possesses.  The competition was videotaped to add to the association’s promotional video.  This video will be used to demonstrate to others exactly what makes the mountain horse as good on the trail as it is in the show ring.  Pam Cooper was the winner of the competition with Rodney Hall placing second, Ethel Jenkins placing third, Gregory Jenkins placing fourth, and Bub Hopkins placing fifth.  Even though only five were chosen to place, everyone that participated did an outstanding job and made choosing the winners difficult for the judges.  Others enjoyed the day on the trails at a leisurely pace.

The board of directors wants to thank all those in attendance, including those that organized and worked the event.  Special thanks goes out to Terry Hopkins, the KNGHA's new Social Event Coordinator, for his devotion in keeping our belly's full and wholesome entertainment.

The association gained several new members and outstanding horses.  Numerous donated items were raffled.  The most sought after item, a Home Interior picture called "Cowboys in the Storm" was won by Mr. Bub Hopkins.  The raffle grossed a total of $569.00 for the association.   Everyone enjoyed the day so much that the planning for the next trail ride and competition is already underway.  We encourage all to come and enjoy the day.  The KNGHA is an organization where the members are the stockholders and decision makers.  The mountain horse has been a true and loyal companion for years and as the KNGHA membership grows so will the certainty that the mountain horse can continue to thrive and be a part of our hearts.
