Mare Showcase:
At the last membership meeting on October 27, 2001 there was discussion regarding developing a mare showcase for the website. This showcase will be similar to the current stallion showcase/listings on the web. Everyone at the meeting agreed this was a perfect opportunity to recognized the important role foundation mares have in continuing the bloodline of the mountain horse. The status quo has been to highlight the stallions and their attributes; however, by doing this we are ignoring an essential element that the mare contributes to the offspring! It is also an opportunity to show how proud you are of your mare and to show others what you have to offer. At this point no other mountain association has a mare sho9wcase, so once again the KNGHA will be paving the way for the future of the mountain horse. Please take this opportunity to submit a photo of your mare with a brief description of what you would like others to know about your special lady, as well as your information - name, farm/ranch name, phone number, and address. This information can be mailed to the KNGHA P.O. Box 420 Morehead, KY 40351 or e-mailed to francis_s@bellsouth.net. For now this showcase listing will be limited to one KNGHA registered mare per owner. This mare showcase/list is provided by the KNGHA at no additional cost to the owner, so Folks make sure you take advantage of this FREE advertising opportunity. |

TRIBUTE TO RED RIVER BANDIT By Donna and Ron Johnson When I first became interested in the Mountain horses, I spoke with
Harry Tudor. Harry is
originally from Kentucky but now lives in Aberdeen, NC, not too far from
me. I was introduced to Harry
and his wife, Dottie, by way of Judy and Nelson Francis since there
aren’t too many people in NC as yet, with mountain horses.
In talking with Harry, he would tell me stories of the mountain
horse. He would also tell me
stories of his stallion, Red River Bandit, affectionately known as
“Bandit”. Bandit died this year and I know how attached Harry was to Bandit.
The inflection in his voice when he talked of Bandit was enough for
you to know of his attachment to his stallion.
You knew how much a part of Harry’s life Bandit really was.
Bandit was not just used for breeding mares.
He was a stallion that was ridden and trail ridden, one that Harry
would offer newcomers to ride. Bandit
was truly a mountain horse. Call and speak to Harry and ask him about the mountain horse.
He’s been around “just long enough” to remember some of the
best “mountain horses”. To Harry and Dottie, I know that you’ll miss Bandit. For us, sometimes, it’s as if we still see “Star” in the pasture, just occasionally catching a glimpse out of the corner of our eye. But, maybe, it’s only with our hearts that we really see him again. |
